To Protest?

When people do something that you feel is wrong but there is nothing you can do to change their actions should you do something or just leave well alone?
I think mostly people would say leave well alone, but apparently not me. I just did something that I think most people are going to see as petty, possibly passive-aggressive and that I know will have no effect on what’s upsetting me. I did it for entirely selfish reasons although I suppose I could say I did it for the principle of the thing to be honest my main motivations were selfish.

The thing is, I don’t feel good about it, I feel damned sad actually but also slightly relieved. Yeah I just did something crappy but I’m not going to be made to feel bad by a group of people I don’t know – win and I feel I was loyal to an old friend – win. Does it matter that I can’t effect a change, not really but I guess I still sometimes know when to leave a room.

  1. For my money, not showing up or knowing when to walk out is sometimes a powerful statement.

"I can’t change what you’re doing. But I’m not going to be part of it, or agree with it".
