It’s a modern Heathen drinking ritual, part of a Blot sometimes but something that stands alone and has enough of a grounding that atheists and other religious types can join in.
You roughly stand in a circle pass the mead horn around and each person toasts three rounds: the first for Gods or Ideals to live by; the second for Heroes and Ancestors (the honoured dead); the third for Boasts and Oaths.
I ended up talking to The Jellicle about LT feeling uncertain about toasting Feles Umbra. We were both happy for the toast and then I asked a question.
What if someone toasted Naiad? I’ve never seen the Jellicle Cat more decisive. No way, and I gotta say I agree with her. No honouring the Naiad in our symbl, if he dies he dies but he’s no honoured dead to be toasted.
I’ve symbled with the Naiad, years ago, quite a bit, but The Jellicle has always been very specific about her boundaries and she’s been right when it comes to these ones so ok, it extends after death too. Yes I think that’s right, I don’t think I know another person I could say that about either.
